Marions Gastro Diner, Stockholm
When the 1930’s movie theater, situated on one of the most fashionable streets in Stockholm, were to be transformed into a bowling alley and restaurant we decided to take a full scale approach covering the concept on all fronts. Since bowling alleys often lack the credibility to run fine dining restaurants, an attractive dining concept was the key element in making this conversion/concept a success. In order to create a unique direction as well as a credible sender we decided to use a true “Midwesterner” as our main source of inspiration, a woman who was a living legend in the American world of bowling during the 50’s and 60’s – Marion Ladewig. She became the first female star within bowling and continued to be a feared adversary long after becoming a grandmother. She also loved cooking – Midwestern style.
In this context we created Marion’s Gastro Diner, a cozy and relaxed diner and bar with 16 full scale bowling lanes. Here carefully prepared American classics, as well as Marion’s own signature dishes, are served. With the concept “an easygoing Gastro Diner inspired by the queen of bowling and her cooking” we were responsible for the interior design, graphic design and the commercial material. The 50’s oozing furnishing contains tons of specially designed solutions regarding everything from furniture to wallpaper and carpeting. In addition to this, props from Marion Ladewigs major interests – bowling and cooking, are interlaced with the rest of the furnishing throughout the restaurant. The end result is Sweden’s first “conceptual restaurant” that caters to both restaurant goes and bowlers alike.
