Stylt’s task for the F&B-product in LEGO House, Billund Denmark - birthplace of the brand and a Mecca for LEGO-fans worldwide - was as simple as it was demanding: A restaurant that “only LEGO could do”. They wanted a restaurant experience, just as playful, interactive and entertaining as other products associated with their brand. Fun, educational and exceeding expectations for all family members.
Impressive as the true-to-LEGO-scale architecture from world class architects BIG was, it was also setting limitations and constrains to the interior design. Being part of a larger experience there was an overall design to stay true to. Surface materials, colors and signage were just a few of the things already decided. Being playful, interactive and educational within that box was a constant challenge.
LEGO Minifigs became chefs in the kitchen. Given their size they needed help, thus robot waiters and a conveyor belt system bring the LEGO-boxes of meals the guests have “built” for themselves in a marriage between classic bricks and a futuristic on-table scanning device. On your screen at the table, you see meals being prepared and sent out by the MiniChefs, through the conveyors to the robots.
Mini Chef is a restaurant that uses the DNA of the magic world of LEGO to 100%. This is a true restaurant experience, just as playful and entertaining as other products associated with the LEGO brand. In short, this is fun dining at its best where even two robots are characterized by great hospitality.
